Ballerina and the Alien Necklace

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you'll know I resist categorization. I'm more than one thing when I get dressed, and I do like to dabble in looks here and there. Today's outfit was inspired by the lovely Dominique who gifted me this necklace. She is tiny, and reminds me of a prima ballerina.
 Homage? Dom-age!

  • Sweater - Sonia Rykiel, consignment; last seen here in April under a silk slip dress
  • Skirt - H&M, consignment; last worn here also with a black sweater in June 2017
  • Shoes - Michael Kors, thrifted; first worn here in April with a fabulous sweater dress

Every time I wear this skirt to work, Emily compliments me on it - I'll probably give it to her when I'm tired of it.
I love the full ballet length of it. The pattern is pretty limiting - that pinky brown colour is tricky, and the black demands...black. There is also a subtle grey "crackle" design on the black that looks blue in certain lights.

The sweater is my thin Sonia Rykiel, worn with a camisole under it because it's rather sheer.
The skirt is very full, front and back.

Thank goodness it has pockets.
I have some holiday time coming up, can you tell?

Ready in my ginormous hat to face another day!
It was super-windy on the way home, and I had to keep one hand firmly clamped on the hat to keep it from wheeling off down the street.

  • Hat - thrifted

The stuff:
My toenails are painted blue (you can kind of see it in the stair picture), and just peeped out of these very comfy leather flats. They kind of look like ballet flats, right?

Alien bling:
"I'm looking at you..."
I liked how the pale blue sparkly stones in the necklace went with the ring and the little stud earrings - and my toes!

  • Belt - vintage fair
  • Necklace - All Saints, gift from Dominique
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - don't remember
There were many admirers of this necklace all day. It was such a fun piece to wear!

  3. I love the ballerina inspired outfit, the skirt is beautiful and the top shows off the new necklace beautifully. I like that you don't have one defined style and you just have fun with fashion each day. I know I have a really casual and predictable style, but I do find your looks inspiring, even if it's just a small thing I try like a different colour combo.

    1. Thank you, Mica - it's way more fun for me to keep shaking things up, and not get stuck in a style-rut. Aw, glad to have inspired you, even if in a little way. :)

  4. I was quite sure the alien necklace would make an appearance soon, and here it is! I'm loving the dress but I understand it might be difficult to style. The black Sonia Rykiel sweater was the perfect choice, though. The shoes are cute too! I'm hopeless at painting my toenails, and have to ask Jos to do it ... xxx

    1. You know it! I like the skirt too - but yes, it's quite limiting with what goes with it. You can't go wrong with a black sweater, and it works well with a complicated necklace like this. Hee, I use 60 second polish. I like it quick and DONE.

  6. What a fabulous necklace, so very unusual! I would have styled this skirt the same Sheila - black is the only way to go with something tricky like this colour. Love the blue back theme too - it's all in the details!

    1. Isn't it fun? Yup, sometimes you just have to go classic. I knew you'd like the blue sub-theme.

  7. Count me in as an admirer of that necklace and how it subtly matches that cool skirt.
I'm having issues with Blogger, did you get my comment on the McQueen pants?
