Bigass Long Weekend Wrap-Up: Pastels and Mega-Shoes, Danger Pants and Fringe, Shopper in Copper, Punk in Pink

Well, that weekend just got away from me somewhat! Where does the time go? I had fully intended to blog on Friday night, but sherry and wine...and a late night...but let's not self-flagellate!
Instead, we shall cast our weekend-dulled brain back to Thursday last, when I wore pastels with the most mega of mega-shoes!

  • Top - Noul, thrifted; purchased here for $5.00
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last seen here with Star Wars shoes
  • Shoes - Nine West, consignment; purchased here for $39.00
  • Jacket (not pictured, this one) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here over pink pajamas

I had many fans of this outfit, particularly of how all the patterns worked together. Yes, we have geometric rectangles in the top, shiny gold circles all over the skirt, and then leopard and floral craziness in the shoes (and 3D florals in the jacket over top of all this - the camera battery died just as I was taking the outerwear picture).
The shoes were such fun! I don't think I can wear them very frequently, but every so often, sure. A very small amount of rubbing on one heel was the only issue.

The stuff:
My WW group loved these! I like that the pale pink in the floral and the mint green in the leaves pulled out the colours in the top/skirt, and the bits of purple worked with my hair. It's like I planned it!

Silver bling:
More geometrics!

  • Cage cuff - Bauxo
  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted

I did "Bam! Bam" Wonder Woman magical cuff noises and poses all day, at work, at my WW meeting and at Book Club afterwards. Book Club is always fairly boozy (heh), and after my week, a little w(h)ining was in order. 'Twas a late night.

Bright and early on Friday, L had the day off, and all I wanted to do was this.
"Join me in floppitude."
Oh, I really wanted to!

Instead, I remembered that my dear Caro had given me this amazing silk skirt, passed along from one of her coworkers.
It is a ruffly flamenco shape, very dramatic.

It's by Marciano, so I guess that's "A Name."
I'm not sure how I'm going to wear this - it's not a work skirt at all! - but I'll figure something out. Suggestions welcome! I have considered a plain white shirt and combat boots, hee hee.

Just rub it in, Vizzini.
"Sneetching is the only approved Friday activity."
Somehow it totally slipped my mind that I had both a haircut after work on Friday, AND dinner out with Tammy, my former boss from my Fairweather (a classic but now-defunct Canadian women's clothing chain) back in 1999-2001.

However, I was dressed to express!
So many loose and floaty things going on. Danger! Danger! Danger Pants!

  • Jacket - Comrags, thrifted; last seen here in April with plaid and beading
  • Top - Ina, consignment; last worn here in September 2015 with pink and yellow florals
  • Pants - Signature, consignment; last seen here over a year ago in May 2015
  • Shoes - Ralph Lauren, thrifted; last worn here with pink pajamas

Fifth wearing of Danger Pants, so called from when they tried to murder me on the first wearing here in June 2014. Even though my knee and toes were destroyed from that spill, there was not a single mark on the pants. I think this proves that they are made from Pure Evil.

I wasn't feeling them too much this time 'round. They are a little big in the (elastic) waist, and although they were fun to wear, maybe this will be it for them. Or not. I don't have to decide now!
They have a built-in pair of little white shorts, as they are completely sheer otherwise. Yup, I wore sheer pants to work (it was dead, due to the looming long weekend here in Canada).

I did organize a paper airplane competition at work on Friday. That was fun.

The stuff:
Awesome black sandals.

Sedate bling:
If you can call a leather and chain cuff sedate.

  • Earrings - Stella and Dot, consignment
  • Wrist wrap - local

Tammy and I had a lovely dinner, drank lots of sherry and wine, and ate tapas for hours. I slept in on Saturday morning (no Ultimate this week, boo), and then L and I went for brunch. The usual.
And the unusual. Copper leather for Saturday brunch!

  • Shirt - Asos, thrifted; first worn here with teal lace
  • Skirt - Cici; last seen here with pastel pink
  • Shoes - Half Truth Veda, Fluevog; last worn here for a weekend in Vancouver in March

And here we have the new haircut. I've had my short-on-the-sides-long-on-top-sometimes-surfer-curl hairdo for nearly a year, and I'm tired of it. I've decided to grow my hair out until I get so frustrated by it that I cut all off again into a shag/rock & roll cut. We have to go short first in order for it to grow out into the right shape. It will be a bit of a spiky/messy thing for a few months. We'll see how long I can stand it!
L's birthday is coming in a couple of weeks, so I spent Saturday afternoon shopping for birthday presents. I had so much fun! I may have even bought a few things for myself.

The stuff:
None of the shoes in my current capsule were right for a 5-hour marathon shop, so I called upon my Vedas to step in. They are awesome.

Gold bling:
Although I wasn't supposed to be shopping for myself (ahem), I did, of course, and in hindsight, less snaggy bling would have been better.

I'm not going to enumerate all the awesome things I found for L as he does read my posts, but yes, there were some very cool things that I found. This is what came home for me.

From The Patch first, OMG, I love this clutch!
The handle is wooden and it's held together with magnets (magnets!). It's faux leather, but look at those studs!

It's by Melie Bianco, which is known for their good quality PV (link here, linking 'cause I love).
Polka dot lining! Squee! This was $16.95. The wooden handle had quite a few scratches and dings, which I fixed with a black permanent marker. Perfect!

I gasped at this dress. I can't help looking at party dresses, especially at The Patch. They have an amazing mix of recent and vintage dresses.
I don't usually go for black dresses, but come on. Feathers??

It was getting dim out when I got home, so I hung some of my purchases off the bathroom door (because I'm classy that way) to get better light.
The dress is a mid-calf, with rows of sheer black fabric and lace over a cream under-layer.
Did I mention ruffles? Feathers??

It's by BCBG Max Azria, and wow, are you kidding me? $39.95? This dress was originally about $350.
And because those hanger pictures don't give you the full idea...
"Was that a feather? I must eat it!"
There you go. As you can see from the feather on my foot and the one in my hand, this dress is going to shed. But hey, for $40 bucks, I'm cool with that.

From there, my next purchase was at Flavour Upstairs, where I found this navy blue blouse.
It's got sheer sleeves and a lace top part, and is trimmed at the next in black faux leather.
Only $5.00! Score!

I browsed the funky jewelry at Mango's.
That ear cuff was $7.00 and the turquoise and gold earrings were $15.00. Mango's is a locally-owned boutique that carries really awesome men's and women's clothing.

After several more stops (stay on target, Sheila, shop for L!), I ended up at the WIN Warehouse store, where I found some more pretties for me.
The pearl drop earrings were $4.00. They have a small logo on the back of the pearl, but I can't read it.

The necklace is by Ellandemm.
I have a bracelet by that same company.

I found this fabulous 80s blouse by Adrianna Pappell.
It needs ironing really badly.
Someone has taken the shoulder pads out of it, but I love the glorious riot of colour.
It was $9.95 and it's 100% silk. So pretty! I may not get a ton of wear out of it, but even 1-2 outfits is good in my book.

Um, I might have bought another black skirt. A black suede skirt.
With grommets! I can't resist!

How much awesome is this?
Only $17.95? I can't be expected to leave that on the rack, can I? This is by Sandra Angelozzi.

This dress looks like something Melanie would wear, doesn't it?
"I smell the ghost of key parties."
This amazing zebra dress is by The 1300 Collection by Holt Renfrew. A little research reveals that this dress is likely from between 1974 and 1979. Note the pre-Great Size Shift sizing - this is a modern size 7-8.
It has a small hole on the side, which I can hide with a belt easily. For $22.95, this great zebra dress is mine!

It has Presence!
"Hmm...what's under here? I must investigate."
I was modeling all my finds for L. There may have to be some wardrobe changes at his birthday party - when else am I going to wear all these amazing dresses?

L and I chilled on Saturday night, having a nice evening in and playing Arkham Horror for hours. We had a restful Sunday morning, and then strolled to town to meet up with 15 of our closest friends for an afternoon of drinks and appies on an outdoor patio in the sun.
More pink!

  • Shirt - Warehouse, thrifted; first worn here (2nd outfit) with floofy green and floral
  • Dress - Kenzo, thrifted; first worn here with nautical stripes
  • Shoes - Born, consignment; last seen here in April for my to-the-field outfit

Hair in full-on stand-up mode!
This dress is going to my dear friend Vero - she loved it, and I'm just "meh" on it. That's good enough reason to pass it along.
"Your dress bores me, woman."
Again, I wore a full vintage slip under it for coverage and warmth.
"What's in the kitchen?"
Red and pink! Sure, why not.

The stuff:
L and I walked to and from town, so again, I needed super-comfy shoes.

  • Chain necklace - part of a $10 grab bag, consignment
  • Necklace - Givenchy, vintage fair
  • Earrings - 5th anniversary gift from L

And here we are, it's Monday Victoria Day, in Canada, so I'm enjoying the extra day off. Back to the insanity tomorrow.

  3. Love! the 80's blouse, S! And the killer shoes (how do you do it? but you do it so well) and all the jewels. Vizzini has the right idea (cats always do) by lounging on the bench. Mine are lounging at various positions right now, but if I go to the kitchen, I will have three vibrant cats. You look gorgeous as per usual, xox

  4. So much good stuff!!!!! Loving that suede skirt! Like rly LOVE!! Gorgeous animal print vintage maxi and that party dress---I do love a party dress. The copper leather top is soooo good!!! Great scores! The silk skirt is amazing and you can't go wrong with a white tee and combat boots, but I would probably wear a white or even black or tan tank top... Just throwing it out there!

  5. Wow, Sheila you picked up some beautiful items! The two dresses are lovely and I really, really, like the zebra dress. It does look very 70s and it does remind me of my misspent youth...sigh... I love the 80s blouse and the leather skirt.

I liked all your outfits - the mint green was very cool and fresh and the floral palazzo pants are really nice - but they are trip hazards! I'm always catching my toe in the back of the opposite leg when I wear them and it's usually on the stairs! I wouldn't dare have a drink whilst wearing them!

Hope you have a great week.

  6. The black feather dress is amaaaaazinggggggg and it looks divine She !
The Vero Moda top too - how amazing that you get hand me downs from friends...
I just got a few dresses from my aunt but our tastes differ and she is bigger than me, so I think I might pass them on to others.

  7. Hahaha!! How can I cover everything here?

Love your haircut! The Danger Pants are one of my FAVES!! I adore them. The fringed top looks great with them. The animal print, yes, it reminds me of an outfit Pao gave me from her mum. We must wear them out together sometimes! And make mewing sounds.

The feathery dress, shedding is good, you can find your way home again. What else? The gold top, always stunning. Vizzini, always lovable. The skirt is a match to a belt I have in rust colour. And love your pastel opener. Don't you feel 6 feet tall in those shoes?! They're great! That's my wrap-up of your wrap-up. Heh.

  8. *Picks jaw up off the ground* That black feathered dress looks stunningly incredible on you! What a chic, gorgeous find! (I'm also completely wild about your denim + bright pink dress outfit!)

    Oodles of hugs,

  9. Your danger pants reminded me that I have a similar pair waiting to have the waistband altered. I love these big floaty trousers, but see that they could be a bit of a hazard. The black feather trimmed dress fits you perfectly Sheila, and I can't wait to see what the suede black skirt looks like when it's on. Am finally playing catch up with all my reading, and hope that you're enjoying your weekend.
