May 1st - Outfit #1 - Old Green and Orange

One of the reasons I started doing this 30 for 30 for 12 Challenge is that I wanted to rediscover my love for my old clothes.Because I don't own anything more than 5 years old (due to my 50lb weight loss), the means pieces that aren't really all that old by most people's standards.

My Day 1 outfit is comprised of all "old" pieces:
I've had this green tuxedo-ruffled cotton blouse since at least 2008.

I first wore it on the blog here in Jun 2008, here in Sept 2008, here in Oct 2008, here in Feb 2009, here in March 2009, here in Aug 2009, here in Sept 2009, here (and here and here) in June 2010 for a wardrobe capsule challenge, and here in June 2011. Pretty sporadic for the last couple of years - it was even in the giveaway pile for a few months! I just can't seem to part with it. It's such a useful colour.

The vest was given to me by my co-worker Ruth at my old job.
I've had it since at least 2009. And the skirt has been a wardrobe stalwart since I bought it on consignment in February 2009.

Added the fabric rose:
And some sparkly bits.

The shoes have been in my closet since June 2008.
I last wore them here.

And yet, I've had all these pieces for at least 3 years together, and never worn them together! How about that?

Blouse (Esprit), vest (Le Chateau, swap from Ruth), skirt (Talbot's, consignment), shoes (Hale Bob), rose (Le Chateau), bracelet (consignment), earrings (Plum).

  1. You've put together a beautiful palette here. In spite of all the times you've worn the blouse, this is my first sighting of it.

  2. I love how you still get lots of wear out of your "old" pieces. Really shows what a difference it makes buying quality pieces - or thrifting quality pieces if you'e on a budget :)

  3. I love the rose detailing and the fact that it's fairly big. A wee brooch wouldn't have the same impact.

The oranges and greens go together so well!

  9. I love rediscovering "old" clothes. I adore that skirt. That's also a terrific rose pin.

I think I have clothes are are at least 6-8 years old in my closet, with a couple of special items older than that. I tell myself I can't remember where certain items came from because I'm decades older than th' younger blogger whippersnappers :)

  11. The colors are absolutely brilliant. I love the big-ass-rose. I've really been loving your hair. The blonde streak is really fabulous.

I don't have many old items in my closet. Probably the oldest are jeans, but even then probably not. I've changed sizes in the past couple of years (up then down then up), so everything fits me wildly different then it did when I was 18-19.

  12. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide
credit and sources back to your site? My blog site is in the very same area of interest
as yours and my visitors would certainly benefit from some of the information you present here.

Please let me know if this ok with you. Cheers!

  13. I love that combination - if you would have said those colours to me, I would have thought that you were crazy, but they work so well together! This is a great outfit - combination of professionalism and personality!
